NMC are committed to providing engaging and transformative learning experiences.
Engagement programmes are built into each of our productions, including workshops, talks, sharings and online programmes. We work with students, professionals, academics and those who might benefit from the development of ideas we stimulate, as well as through mentoring programmes.
For the past 10 years NMC has worked closely with the Architectural Association School of Architecture for their MA/MFA in Spatial Performance and Design. Our members regularly work with other Higher Education institutions including UCL Interactive Architecture Lab, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and with hundreds of young people seeking to develop careers in creative industries after they leave full-time education.

The Architectural Association
School of Architecture
In 2010 NMC became part of team of tutors at the Architectural Association, School of Architecture for the MA/MFA in Spatial Performance and Design (AAIS). The studio focuses on designing bespoke project events and installations; pioneering a new method of genre-defying creative work between fields of art, music, dance and architecture. To date AAIS and NMC have successfully mounted numerous large scale performance events across Europe, incl. Zaha Hadid’s Roca Gallery; Lisbon Architecture Treinnale; Bareclona Re.Set; Ibizia Rocks Pikes Hotel and the epic Madrid Matadero.

CAT Dance East
Digital Easter Intensive with students aged 11-16 at Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Dance East Ipswich.
Inspired by our anniversary film Ten by Ten, the CAT programme invited NMC to work with nearly 40 students to create two short films over 3 -day intensive workshops delivered over zoom. Guided by our members, the students filmed themselves using their own mobile phones and the footage has been edited together by NMC. The films, How do you do? and Zest were screened in July by DanceEast, and you can still catch them from our Facebook page
Project XO
For the last two years we have been delivering a diverse programme of events to accompany our current production, Project XO.
This has included working with Sense Charity, delivering movement and robotics workshops to adults with complex communication needs (deaf blind) exploring new ways they could experience movement and choreography without ‘seeing’ or ‘hearing’. The participants work with NMC to improve their physical strength and engage with dance and technology by wearing our robotic suits, designed to guide the wearer through precisely choreographed sequence of movements.
We have also worked the Barbican’s Young Creatives, who as an age group (mostly under 25’s) will be most affected by the progression and ethics of future AI and robotic development.
In 2019 we presented Project XO as work in progress during Tate Britain Lates. NMC were part of a one-night public show of performances, interactive installations, and participatory workshops to celebrate the Bauhaus centenary and its continuing influence.
“I really enjoyed the experience. Totally foreign, my imagination was running wild…I was lost in my own world. Amazing.”
