NEST—FILM ENGAGEMENT PROJECT
led by Deborah Galloway
As part of NEST, NMC recruited a group of student filmmakers to film and edit experimental short dance films. The shorts integrate NEST dance footage and the filmmakers own additional filmed footage responding to themes from Homer’s odyssey, the Stone Nest site and the movement, costume, set and design from the production.
They were closely mentored by Deborah Galloway, on how to read and understand the language of dance, introducing the filmmakers to a site responsive cross-arts collaborative work and explaining the choreographic themes inspired by The Odyssey, thereby translating the creative process from initial idea into performance.
All filmmakers were inspired by filming live dance during the rehearsal process , performance and on a closed set.
The filmmakers were also mentored by Annette Porter, Nylon FIlms (www.nylonfilms.co.uk) for all camera and technical skills, and the process of filming dance from the set into the edit to create a short film.
Filmmakers: Tom Cosway, Ozie Foster, Troy Aidoo and Frezer Jida are studying film at London Metropolitan University, City and Islington College and Maria Pandura (photographer) from Lambeth College.
